Hi, y’all, and welcome to GRITS are Legit. My name is Houghton, and I was born and raised in the South, Louisville, KY to be more specific.
Welcome | GRITS are Legit - Good Stuff From The South
Hey, Y’all! As the big game day approaches, I thought it would be appropriate to share with you some of my favorite, crowd-pleasing, and kid-approved snacks that we will be having to watch the big football game (and/or the commercials and half time show).
What party would be complete without some kind of scrumptious morsel that you can just pop in your mouth like candy!?
Every party should have some kind of dip, preferably cheese, please!
This is one of my all-time favorite snacks - and would eat it ANY day, not just on game day. I will typically eat anything if it has blue cheese in it, on it, or around it.
Several traditional Southern foods have been adopted all over the country, including biscuits & gravy, chicken & waffles, even shrimp & grits in some authentic soul food establishments.
If you're from the South, it’s not unusual to have someone’s last, maiden, or surname as your given name.
Things are starting to heat up as the prep races for the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby are underway.
One of my favorite things about growing up in the South was that ‘Sunday Dress’ was not just for going to church.
As a child, this was probably my most requested meal.
The official purse changeover, to fun and vibrant colors, is one of the sure signs of Spring!
The Kentucky Derby is known as “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” but in Kentucky, the party lasts much longer than that!
This time of year, many people adorn their front doors with a Spring wreath or floral door swag. For me, it’s Derby season, so I hang my Derby wreath with horses, ribbons, and roses!
The Kentucky Derby is to horse racing, as the Masters is to golf.
Some of my favorite childhood memories are from going to sleep away camp. I spent four summers at a camp tucked back in the woods of North Carolina.
